Augmented Reality Fashion Show Demo

Augmented Fashion

Augmented Fashion

The fashion industry seems to be a great niche for augmented reality as we’ve seen the success of the Esquire and InStyle magazine using AR together with their magazine to boost sales and differentiate themselves from their competition. Now, introducing the folks from Laboratory4.com who have created a unique concept called the “Augmented Reality Fashion Show”. This innovative concept developed using the FLARToolkit shows the possibility of having a few svelte models strutting their stuff on a “virtual runway

Coca-Cola launches face-matching Facebook app

Coke Zero Face Profiler

Coke Zero Face Profiler

Coca-Cola on Thursday launched a facial-matching Facebook application called the Coke Zero Facial Profiler.

As long as users have at least three photos of themselves in their Facebook profile, the application searches across other pictures from Facebook users that have used the app to find someone whose face matches theirs most accurately. Those that don’t have three images can either upload a picture into the app from their desktop or capture a picture from their Webcam.

Bing Maps Beta: Very cool, but limited

Bing Maps

Bing Maps

Microsoft’s Bing took a major step forward Wednesday in adding rich mapping and image data to its search engine, but until it assembles more data, pretty pictures aren’t enough to beat the Google Maps juggernaut.

Bing Maps Beta was released during a presentation at Microsoft’s offices here. It’s a Silverlight-based application that runs inside Bing Maps and adds Microsoft’s version of Google Street View–called Streetside–to Bing Maps, as well as enhanced “bird’s eye” images that let you swoop over cities.

I spent some quality time Tuesday night with the new Bing Maps Beta, zooming through the streets of San Francisco and New York and testing out various searches. The best part about Bing Maps Beta–by far–are the rich transitions between high-resolution street-level or bird’s-eye view photos as you move around a city, making it feel like you’re actually driving down the road. Nice

Official ‘Avatar’ AIR app is a must-see

Avatar

Avatar

If you’re planning to check out “Avatar” when it hits cinemas next month, you’ll definitely want to download its official Adobe AIR app.

Like so many other Adobe AIR apps, the “Avatar” app has really pushed the limits of what can be done with the mobile-widget platform.

Augmented Reality hidden in Yelp on Iphone

Augmented Reality on Iphone

The hot trend of 2009 has to be augmented reality, particularly with all the impressive tech demos and futuristic games currently in development across the world.

On the iPhone in particular, several companies have promised Twittering, search, and other navigation using layers of real-time data overlaid onto live video from the iPhone’s camera. Imagine a heads-up display on reality itself, and that’s what augmented reality is promising.

Apple has been onboard with these developments, promising that the upcoming OS 3.1 will provide full compatibility for AR apps. But it turns out we don’t need to wait after all. In addition to French and British AR map programs hitting the App Store early, a much better and cooler solution has been lurking under our eyes the whole time.

Called “Monocle,” it’s an Easter egg within Yelp. As in, Yelp 3.0, the one that’s currently available on the App Store. When I first read a tweet about it, I was disbelieving. But all you have to do is shake your phone three times like in some fairy tale to trigger the Monocle button, which suddenly appears on the top of the screen.

Meet MYLO - Photolinks very own virtual EyePet

mylobirth

Meet Mylo our very own virtual EyePet born and bred in the Photolink gallery today. For those who have been sleeping in a cave for the past year,  EyePet is a virtual pet simulator that takes advantage of the PlayStation Eye. With the addition of a “magic card,” players will be able to play with a virtual monkey that lives in augmented reality. The television will display what the PlayStation Eye sees: you, and your body. Your on-screen pet will then be able to respond to all your actions. You’ll be able to virtually pet the creature on the head, grab a bowl of food and feed it, and play a variety of mini-games. The tactile sensation of owning a pet will be gone, but instead will be an unworldly adorable creature that uses tech that feels like it’s from the future.  The MUST HAVE present for the kids at Xmas.  Some video footage seen on Youtube
